Community Living Sarnia-Lambton (CLSL) was first organized 'officially' in 1956 as a non-profit, charitable corporation called the Sarnia & District Association for the Mentally Retarded. It was created in order to provide community-based (non-institutional) opportunities for people with developmental disabilities.
The name of the organization was formally changed in 1980 to The Sarnia & District Association for Community Living, then (informally) to Community Living Sarnia & District and, in 2002, to its present name.
